Berthold Weil
BERTHOLD WEIL wurde am 19. Juli 1899 in Freiburg geboren. Seine Eltern hießen Leopold Weil, geboren am 8. August 1865, und Julie Weil, geboren als Julie Dreyfuß am 13. Juni 1877. BERTHOLD WEIL war der Inhaber der Firma K. A. Schüler Hanf- und Drahtseilerei (auch Firma Weil). Ab 1938 betrieb er eine Bindfadengroßhandlung. Er war verheiratet mit ELSE WEIL GEB.STERN. Gemeinsam hatten sie die Tochter Thekla. Von 1916 bis 1938 war er in der Salzstraße 29 gemeldet. In den Unterlagen des Stadtarchivs ist als letzte Freiburger Adresse die Maximilianstraße 26 verzeichnet, in den Einwohnerbüchern ist er jedoch nicht dort gemeldet.
Am 22. Oktober 1940, einem Tag des jüdischen Laubhüttenfestes, wurde BERTHOLD WEIL wegen der „Rassegesetze“ der Nationalsozialisten verhaftet und in das Lager-KZ Gurs deportiert. Nach zwei Jahren in diesem furchtbaren Lager wurde er weiter deportiert. Etwa 650 Personen kamen aus der „unbesetzten Zone Frankreichs“ am 15. September 1942 im KZ Drancy an, unter ihnen auch BERTHOLD und ELSE WEIL aus Gurs. Der Zug hatte die Demarkationslinie zwischen dem noch „freien“ Frankreich, wo das Lager Gurs sich befand, und dem von den Deutschen besetzten Teil Frankreichs, in dem das KZ Drancy lag, passiert. Am 16. September 1942 wurde BERTHOLD WEIL mit dem Konvoi Nr. 33 vom KZ Drancy in das KZ Auschwitz deportiert. Die Leitung des Transports hatte Feldwebel Ullmeyer. BERHOLD WEIL wurde nach der Befreiung offiziell für tot erklärt. Tatsächlich ist BERTHOLD WEIL, 43 Jahre alt, in den Gaskammern von Auschwitz-Birkenau ermordet worden.

BERTHOLD WEIL was the owner of the company K. A. Schüler Hanf- und Drahtseilerei (also known as the Weil company). From 1938 onwards he ran a wholesale business in twine. He was married to ELSE WEIL GEB.STERN. Together they had a daughter Thekla. From 1916 to 1938 he was registered at Salzstraße 29. In the records of the city archives, Maximilianstraße 26 is listed as his last Freiburg address, but in the residents‘ registers he is not registered there.
On 22 October 1940, a day of the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, BERTHOLD WEIL was arrested because of the National Socialists‘ „race laws“ and deported to the Gurs concentration camp. After two years in this terrible camp, he was further deported. About 650 people arrived at the Drancy concentration camp from the „unoccupied zone of France“ on 15 September 1942, among them BERTHOLD and ELSE WEIL from Gurs. The train had passed the demarcation line between still „free“ France, where the Gurs camp was located, and the part of France occupied by the Germans, where the Drancy concentration camp was located. On 16 September 1942, BERTHOLD WEIL was deported from the Drancy concentration camp to the Auschwitz concentration camp with convoy No. 33. Sergeant Ullmeyer was in charge of the transport. BERHOLD WEIL was officially declared dead after the liberation. In fact, BERTHOLD WEIL, 43 years old, was murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Le train avait franchi la ligne de démarcation entre la France encore „libre“, où se trouvait le camp de Gurs, et la partie de la France occupée par les Allemands, où se trouvait le camp de concentration de Drancy. Le 16 septembre 1942, BERTHOLD WEIL fut déporté du camp de concentration de Drancy vers le camp de concentration d’Auschwitz avec le convoi n° 33. Le sergent Ullmeyer était responsable du transport. BERHOLD WEIL a été officiellement déclaré mort après la libération. En effet, BERTHOLD WEIL, 43 ans, a été assassiné dans les chambres à gaz d’Auschwitz-Birkenau.
