Norbert Bloch

NORBERT BLOCH wurde am 1. Dezember 1887 in Schmieheim geboren.

NORBERT BLOCH was born on December 1st, 1887 in Schmieheim. The surname Bloch was a very common family name at that time. Since NORBERT BLOCH was not registered in Salzstraße from 1933 to 1940, we could only find out during later research that NORBERT BLOCH and SOFIE BLOCH were a married couple. They had a daughter together, Lore (*23 July 1927). LORE BLOCH, like all children of Jewish religion in Freiburg, had to leave public school from 1936. She was forced to transfer to the Freiburg Jewish School. However, these were only two classrooms in what is now the Lessing School. From 1938 on, these children were no longer allowed to enter the Lessing School, a provisional „school“ was set up in the Jewish Community Center.

On October 22, 1940, the BLOCH couple and their 13-year-old daughter Lore were arrested and deported to the Gurs camp. Lore was rescued from the Gurs concentration camp by children’s aid organizations and later lived in the USA. She died in Florida in 2001 at the age of 74 as Lore Stern-Bloch. (Source 61,p.16).

From the Gurs camp NORBERT BLOCH and his wife SOFIE BLOCH were taken to the concentration camp Drancy near Paris. On August 14, 1942 NORBERT BLOCH was deported with convoy No. 19 to the concentration camp Auschwitz. NORBERT BLOCH was murdered in the gas chambers of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp at the age of 55.

However, the STOLPERSTEINE for NORBERT and SOFIE BLOCH are not located next to each other in Salzstraße. The stone for NORBERT BLOCH is laid in front of the entrance of today’s Salzstraße 11, because at first it was not clear that in the meantime the numbering of the house numbers had changed.

Починаючи з 1938 року, цим дітям більше не дозволяли вступати до школи Лессінга;

у колоні No 19.
